Christmas baking gift ideas: what to put together
A baking gift works because it gets used. The person opens it in December and has a batch of cookies on the table by the weekend. The trick is to give a complete kit, not just one tool: something to shape with, something to bake, a recipe they can follow, and wrapping that survives the trip. This guide walks through how to put one together for different kinds of bakers. It also covers what our cutters and mould are, and aren't, and when to order so it arrives before Christmas. We're a small Canadian shop. Prices are in CAD, and we ship everywhere in Canada except Quebec.
Pick by the baker
The beginner, or a parent baking with kids. Cookie cutters are the easiest place to start: roll out the dough, press, lift, bake. Add a bag of flour, a box of icing sugar and a tube or two of coloured icing, so decorating is part of the gift. If children are helping, an adult should handle the cutters: their edges are thin.
The regular cookie baker. They probably own a rolling pin and a favourite recipe already, so give them shapes they don't have. A 14-piece Christmas set gives them a full tray of different shapes for a cookie exchange. Pair it with something they'd use but rarely buy for themselves, such as good vanilla, sprinkles or a pack of parchment.
The person who makes treats rather than cookies. A shaped mould gives a different kind of result: small, uniform pieces for a gift box or a dessert plate. Our mould has 8 cavities in Santa, bear and tree shapes. Add the ingredients they like to work with, and a small box or tin for giving the results away.
Building the gift: a 4-part checklist
- One tool to shape with: cutters, a mould, or both.
- One or two ingredients they'd enjoy: decorating sugar, sprinkles, icing, a nice vanilla. Buy these locally so they're fresh.
- A recipe card in your own handwriting. Your family's sugar-cookie recipe means more than anything printed, and it tells them exactly what to make with the tools.
- Wrapping that holds an odd shape. Box first, then wrap (see below).
Cookie cutters vs a treat mould: what each is for
- Christmas Cookie Cutter Set, 14 pc (C$21.95). Fourteen Christmas-shaped cutters, in the shapes shown in the product photos. Listed material: stainless steel. The edges are thin, so handle them with care. Best for rolled cookie dough.
- Christmas Silicone Treat Mould, 8 cavity (C$12.95). One mould with 8 cavities in Santa, bear and tree shapes, listed at about 20 × 10.6 × 1.7 cm. The colour is assigned at random, so it may not match the photos. Read the listing details before you choose it for a specific recipe.
- Both together: the Christmas Baking Kit (C$32.95) is the cutter set plus the mould in one parcel. That's C$1.95 less than buying them separately (C$34.90).
Bundles, and when they make sense
Shipping is a flat C$6.95, and orders of C$60.00 or more ship free. That makes the bundle maths simple:
- One gift: the Baking Kit at C$32.95, plus C$6.95 shipping.
- One to give, one to keep (or two gifts): the Christmas Baking Gift Bundle (C$82.85) is 2 Baking Kits plus a Wrapping Paper Cutter. That's the same price as 2 Baking Kits and a cutter bought separately, C$3.90 less than the individual items (C$86.75), and it ships free.
- A full Christmas set for one household: the Christmas Bundle (C$93.80) is a Baking Kit, 2 knitted Santa stockings and a Wrapping Paper Cutter, the same price as those items bought separately. It ships free, in one parcel.
- Building your own: Baking Kit + Wrapping Paper Cutter + Santa Stocking = C$71.85, over C$60.00, so shipping is free. Baking Kit + Wrapping Paper Cutter alone = C$49.90, which adds C$6.95 shipping.
Wrapping odd-shaped baking gifts
Cutters and moulds are awkward to wrap flat, so put everything in a box or tin first: the tools, the ingredients, then the recipe card on top. Wrap the box, not the items. A sliding cutter makes the paper part faster. Our Wrapping Paper Cutter (C$16.95) fits over the roll and slides along to cut a straight line with a small built-in blade. That blade is small and sharp, so keep the cutter away from children. If you're adding a label, kraft gift tags are an add-on option with the Christmas Baking Gift Bundle.
When to order for Christmas
Orders ship from our warehouse to addresses across Canada, except Quebec. We process orders in 1–3 business days. Delivery then takes about 7–14 days (remote areas can take longer). Holidays can add time. For expected delivery before Christmas, our estimated order-by dates are about Dec 2 (Ontario cities), Nov 29 (other cities), Nov 26 (rural) or Nov 20 (remote areas). These dates are estimates only, not promises. Deliveries to remote and northern areas (Nunavut, Northwest Territories, Yukon, Labrador and other remote postal codes) can take longer. See ordering and delivery for tracking and import-charge details.
